Ms. Billington's Biography
Anne Billington arrived at Michigan State University after completing a Freshmen Seminar Abroad to New Zealand. She took every opportunity to explore the global community as a student interested in global education and as a dual citizen who has lived outside of the United States.
Her involvement on campus at Michigan State University includes both academic and social success. She has been an active member of the first Global Educators Cohort program since her freshmen year at State. This program allowed her to travel to China and observe classrooms as well as teach in a classroom in China. She has participated in two Alternative Spring Break (ASB) programs leading one as a Site Leader in her junior year to volunteer her time to help others in need during spring break. These programs made it possible for her to travel to schools in Mexico and Puerto Rico. During her time at Michigan State she also joined the sisterhood of Sigma Delta Tau and held the Historian, Vice President of Recruitment, and Relay for Life Chair positions. As an executive member of Sigma Delta Tau Beta Beta chapter she was able to give back to her community through their philanthropy of Prevent Child Abuse America and the community through outreach programs to locals. She also participated in philanthropic events outside of her sorority walking in the first 5k for Pancreatic Cancer at Michigan State last year organized and ran by a group of her close friends. She graduated MSU managing to achieve the deans list for both semesters of her senior year and still hold an elective and general board position in her sorority.
Her careers outside of education include working at the Birmingham Art Center (BAC) summer camp as an art camp counselor, acting as a Nanny for a family of four in England, and working as a Service Center Representative at the front desks in the dorms for 2 years during term time and breaks. Service Center Representatives have a similar job to that of a secretary and information center. She will also be interning at a local East Michigan high school in the 2012-2013 academic school year.
An important aspect of her life is family -- her father (a British citizen with warmth, generosity, and an active sense of humor), mother (a creative, intelligent and open-hearted woman that she aspires to be like), brother (a practicing lawyer and Michigan Law school alum - but she doesn’t hold either of those against him), and one cat (Columbus the explorer!).
